A Funny From The Late Mitch Hedberg

I was in downtown Hartford and I saw a duck. I knew the duck was lost, because ducks aren’t supposed to be downtown. There’s nothing for ‘em there. So I went to a Subway sandwich shop. I said, “Let me have a bun.” She wouldn’t sell me just the bun, she said it had to have something on it. She said it’s against Subway regulations to sell just the bun. I guess the two halves aren’t supposed to touch. So, I said, “All right, put some lettuce on it.” “That’ll be $1.75!” I said, “It’s for a duck!” “Oh, then it’s free.” I did not know that. Ducks eat for free at Subway! Had I known that, I would have ordered a much larger sandwich. “Let me have the steak fajita sub, and don’t bother ringing it up – it’s for a duck! There are six ducks out there, and they all want Sun Chips!”

Could He Be Anymore White Trash?

Now, I am all for having a single cold beer in the summer, or a single glass of wine at dinner, or even a single fruity mixed drink on vacation in Puerto Rico, but I deplore alcoholism and I would never condone drinking heavily under any circumstances.

So…

Really?! A motorized bar stool?! Is this the kind of stupidity we have to deal with? Adults that behave this way should be locked up for good, I hope that this half-wit doesn’t have any kids, God help us all. On todays news and some of you probably saw it, (althoughI know we are all sometimes too busy to catch the news) there was this guy who rigged a friggin bar stool to a motorized set of wheels on some kind of 2 x 2 foot platform and handle bars for a “steering wheel”.  Well of course he had alcohol on board and of course, as if he was driving a car and not a “bar stool mobile”, he inevitably crashed into a tree, pole, fence whatever it was, I don’t remember. As it happens he was injured in several places and he proceded to sit there with the wrecked motorized bar stool and continued to down a half bottle of vodka, because he was in a lot of pain. When the police showed up to charge him with a DUI, he proceded to tell them that his stool can go up to 38 MPH. He also told them that he had just finished drinking the vodka for the pain, and they had a clip of him saying these things on the news!! I can’t believe there are people that stupid, to not only be just a raging alcoholic but to also build a contraption like that, and then tell the whole country on the news just how much stupider you are when we already were under the assumption that you were as stupid as you could possibly be.

Lots of stuff going on

Posted in Uncategorized on March 22, 2009 by muchblahaboutus

Well Sarah and Jeremy had their first dinner guests at the new apartment (actually new-ish since we have been in here just under 6 months now). Sarah’s friend Angela and her fiance came over for dinner Friday night and Jeremy made spaghetti w/browned butter and Greek cheese topping as well as curly pasta with meatballs from the crockpot. Sarah made a fine salad and garlic bread. Our guests brought a nice white wine which coincidently happens to be one of our favorites, “Ballet of Angels” from the Sharpe Hill Vineyard in Pomfret, CT and some excellent chocolate chip blondies. A fun time was had by all, and we hadn’t seen them for a while. Our guests are getting married in October and we are very excited for them.

On Saturday we went to a wine tasting at Diamond Hill Vineyard and Winery in Cumberland, RI. It was very nice. The farm was kind of drab, as is normal in winter but we could tell that it will look gorgeous in the coming months as everything blooms and they will let people meander in the vineyard. The porch and tasting room were very quaint and homey. Most of the wines were the best we’ve had in New England so far. I highly recommend Diamond Hill. The wine tasting is free, and the wines are set at some of the best prices, 11.75/bottle for all but two of their wines, and they have 8 of them year round and two others seasonally. Believe it or not they grow a pinot noir grape and make (very successfully) a fantastic Pinot Noir from it. If you don’t know, the pinot grapes do not grow in the northeast. They have successfully grown them for a few years out of sheer stubborness to give up finding a way. We are getting quite educated, as most of you know who read this blog and are on Facebook we took a tour of the CT Wine Trail in Oct/Nov 08 and now we are increasing our repertoir of wine knowledge by slowly going thru New England. Upon leaving RI, on the way back we stopped at Old Furnace State Park in Killingly, CT. It was a very nice trail that winds its way into the forest along one of the most scenic (our opinion) mountain streams in the state. Here are some pics of that park.

NextSaturday night we are going to a comedy club here in town that Jeremy won free tickets to at his most recent Chamber Of Commerce event.

Then on Saturday the 4th of March we are going up north to the second hometown of Mr Bill Cosby. Here we will visit Goulds Sugar House to witness the grand spring pastime of sugaring. The historic place is in Shelburne Falls.

The band

The band

The show was freaking great. Unforgettable Fire is a top notch cover band and while they are not as good as “2U” which is the only U2 cover band fully endorsed by U2, they still rocked and the look was equally as pleasing. Rookies was absolutely packed. Its the largest crowd we’ve seen there out of the bands we have gone there to see. We guessed people were out in droves due to the nice weather CT enjoyed yesterday and they also needed to get their U2 fix since the new CD “No Line On The Horizon” came out last Tuesday. U2 has yet to put the concert schedule on their website to find out when the real Bono, Edge, Adam, and Larry are coming to “a town near you”. Jeremy was hoping to put video of the show up here on this blog entry, but it won’t load, for more pics, go to Jeremy’s facebook page. We will try to put up the videos on Facebook as well.

Incidently, the better of the U2 cover bands “2U” will be playing at The Blackbear Saloon, Hartford, CT on St. Patricks Day night starting at 10 pm.

Why have a blog?

Posted in Uncategorized on March 6, 2009 by muchblahaboutus

Why do we have a blog? No one can answer that, but everyone can wonder why we have a blog when we haven’t been writing in it. This blog has been short on writings not because Jeremy is overwhelmingly busy anymore but because of sheer laziness and having fun using facebook. We have a whole bunch of old friends that have joined facebook recently and its fun again to be doing stuff on it. Our friend list is getting longer.

For those who like to keep up on reading the blog, please stay loyal. It will have some good stuff periodically. Jeremy prefers to write about events that take place and we haven’t been doing too much latley. However we are going to a show at Rookies in Cromwell this weekend to see “Unforgettable Fire”, its a U2 cover band. So there will be a blog entry about that and hopefully some pics to post on this blog and facebook. We got new batteries for the digital camera, so we are good to go. Those interested in attending the show at Rookies, the band goes on at 10:30 Saturday night, but from experience, you need to get there around 9 to get table because it gets PACKED! We will be there at 9-ish with a couple friends. The cover charge at the door is $8.00.

Edun (nude spelled backward)

Posted in Uncategorized on March 1, 2009 by muchblahaboutus

Nude because this charity built by Paul & Ali Hewson, other wise known as Bono and his wife is one that they make absolutely no personal monetary gain from. The clothing, yes is expensive but worth it due to not having a fat CEO getting fatter, nor people working in sweat shops to make the clothing for a dollar a month. The cotton, materials, labor, and facilities are all in African countries and elsewhere, where they were previoulsy impoverished, but now earn respectable wages. All the money made through the sale of these clothes goes right back into the economies where the stuff started, for the people to build better futures and positive development. Those of you who follow Bono and his philanthropic Christianity as well as the tone of U2’s music know that he is the real thing. Inasmuch this economy sucks, if you are going to splurge, do it thru this company. At tleast you know where the money is going and why. Check out the website www.edunonline.com

If I opened a small restaurant or deli… By Jeremy

Posted in Uncategorized on February 28, 2009 by muchblahaboutus

Would you all come and eat at my place if I opened it? Deli fare would include bar-b-q club snadwiches, BLTs, homemade kettle chips or fries, cubesteak sandwiches, ceasar salad w/or w/o grilled chicken, loaded nachos, and of course my awesome chili that it seems noone can get enough of when I serve it up or make it for parties. Sarah also makes some kick ass homemade baked beans, and also some great waldorf salad with bacon w/or w/o apples. To wash it all down we would have Avery’s gourmet sodas from right here in New Britain. Also an assortment of New England area micro brews from Maine to Connecticut, assortments from CT’s Wine trail, and tap water because as we all know, bottled water is really tap water anyway, don’t even try to deny it although we all pay extra for it like sheep led astray. Get a meal with a soda or fruit juice for  or a meal with a beer or glass of wine for just between 4 and 9 bucks. Menu will change seasonally. The above is just a sampling of foods I would make. Let me tell you, you haven’t had pasta until you’ve had it with a particular type of greek cheese on top instead of sauce, its like crack. Also a grilled cheese sandwich isn’t a grilled cheese sandwich until its made with Tillamook cheese, and a particular type of ham. Now for those of you who are true deli lovers, there would be pickles on the side. I don’t like pickles, but I understand the importance of them.

Too Busy

Sorry folks for not blogging much lately. Been working so hard drumming up businesses and going to New Britain Chamber of Commerce meetings (I recently joined) that I have been running myself ragged and I am totally lazy in the evenings when I would usually blog or go on Facebook. Sarah has also started school at Tunxis and we just are so freaking going all the time. Anyway, enough of my jibber jabber, I just wanted to keep you posted as to what is happening, I have nothing to write about so nothing is what I am writing. My brain is fried, and I have zilch. The good news is that my business partner and I have a handful of appointments coming up soon.
